2014 is quickly becoming the year of the seller so far in the Des Moines real estate game, with home prices continuing to rebound from the Great Recession. The first quarter home sales in the Des Moines area started out pretty flat however a quick rebound as winter turned to spring has people confident once again about a stronger rebound. Des Moines real estate staging experts understand that a seller’s market means more competition to stand out.
First the good news for sellers: April saw home sales jump 18 percent from sales in April 2013. Realtors also saw homes sell faster in April. Homes sold last month had been on the market around 98 days which is down from the April 2013 average of 103 days. Overall pending house sales in the Greater Des Moines area rose 34 percent from March to April and the number of homes sold between March and April jumped from 735 to 788.
This is all welcome news after a rough start to 2014 that saw home sales drop 11 percent in the state and 7 percent in the Des Moines metro compared with 2013 prices. Many people blame the rough start to the first quarter home sales on the harsh winter, which seemed at points to be never-ending. The rebound in April is a strong indicator that home sales will eventually rise.
Now the good news for people buying homes: The bad start to the year, whether weather related or not, saw the average home price drop all the way to $148,500. In April that price moved up a bit to $159,000 however it is still well-below the predicted average price of around $185,000 made by Kiplinger.
Another good sign is the amount of homes on the market increased by 3 percent in April, meaning there are more choices for buyers. What many people listing homes are finding, however, is buyers are still very demanding. Des Moines real estate staging can help people struggling to sell their homes in a demanding market.
