How To Replace Trim While Preserving Craftsmanship – Wrong Way, Right Way

If there is one thing that we can’t stand here at Treasured Spaces, it’s when a home remodeler doesn’t try and keep the integrity and character that an older home possesses when replacing trim. Now, we understand that everyone has a different budget and we’ll happily work with you whether your budget is modest or high.

However, when you’re remodeling your home, or updating the details within your house, it’s important to try and maintain the character and craftsmanship that the original builders put into the home.

How to Properly Replace Trim in Your Home

In many older homes, you’ll find that the trimming used in the home is quite unique, which can make it difficult, if not impossible, to find similar trimming at a local home improvement store. Fortunately, there is an easy solution.

You can take a piece of your old trimming, whether it’s for your floor, window, or wherever, and bring it to a lumber yard. They will be able to cut a piece of wood that is identical to that of the old trim. In the video we show you how a lumber yard was able to replicate a piece of trim that was created over 100 years ago! Pro tip: make sure you call ahead before you go to the lumber yard to make sure they provide this service.

We like to show some of the craftsmen that came before us some respect by helping to keep the integrity and character of the homes they created when renovating and remodeling. So, if you’re budget allows, do the right thing and get your trim custom made to fit the older details that make your home so unique!
